Hyde Creek Open House & Salmon Release

Hyde Creek Open House Flyer 2016

Date:  Saturday, April 23rd
Time:  10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Where:  Hyde Creek Education Centre (3636 Coast Meridian Road)

You can help the Hyde Creek Watershed Society members release thousands of salmon into Hyde Creek in April each year. Members have spent 18 months raising coho from eggs through to fry and smolt stages and these coho are now ready to travel to the ocean.

Carry a bucket of salmon from the hatchery to the creek where you will release them and send them on their journey to the ocean.

While you’re at the hatchery, visit the Education Centre and have a tour with one of the volunteer members. Exhibits and crafts are part of the day, along with a fund raising hot dog BBQ.

Smiling Creek Elementary School Funded

Smiling Creek Elementary Funded: Great News for Burke Families

Wesbild is thrilled with today’s funding announcement of Smiling Creek Elementary by the Honourable Mike Bernier, Minister of Education, MLA Linda Reimer, Mayor Richard Stewart of the City of Coquitlam, and Chair Judy Shirra of School District 43.

“This is great news for our community,” said Kevin Layden, President and CEO of Wesbild Holdings Ltd. “The funding of Smiling Creek Elementary was the result of true partnership between multiple levels of government and the entire Burke Mountain community.  We were pleased to play our part in making today a reality.”

The 3,700-square-metre two-story school will provide 430 student spaces (80 kindergarten and 350 elementary), as well as a Neighbourhood Learning Centre. Students, families and community members of Burke Mountain will benefit from this new school due to its multi-use model – school, joint-use field, and park.

Wesbild is a proud partner in the school land sites agreement announced by School District 43 in June. Wesbild also sponsors a number of community initiatives for Burke Mountain families, including the donation of $5 million towards a new turf and sports field at the future Burke Mountain secondary school site, as well as financial support for Burke school bus services, the new Coquitlam SAR Mobile Command Centre, and the Coquitlam Public Library Bus to service Burke Mountain families.
