Are Your Kids Active Enough?
According to ParticipACTION, kids from 5 – 11 years old need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physial activity every day.
Here are some ideas to keep your kids moving, staying healthy, and having fun this summer!
Bike Riding
If your kids are bored with riding around the block, check out some of the great biking trails in the area – we love the family-friendly Traboulay PoCo Trail! If you’re up for a more challenging route, Pinecone Provincial Park off of Harper Road has some great mountian bike trails too.
Playground Activities
Check out of the new parks at Burke Mountian, including the new Galloway Neighbourhood Park, Millard Orchard Park, and Marguerite Park. With slides, swings, monkey bars and more, 60 minutes will fly by!
Spray Parks
In the heat of the summer, the kids an cool down at one of the many spray parks in Coquitlam, including the one at the new Galloway Neighbourhood Park and Norm Staff Park, located at David Avenue and Oxford.
Basketball
The new Galloway Neighbourhood Park has a full sport court, and Millard Orchard Park has a half court. Split the family into teams, or challenge your neighbours to a basketball game!
After-Dinner Walk
Instead of turning the TV on after dinner, take the family out to explore the neighbourhood.
Puddle Jumping
I know it’s summer, but it’s also Vancouver! We’re bound to have a wet day sooner or later – but don’t let that stop the kids from getting outside!
